MINI Vision Urbanaut

ABOUT

I worked on developing motion graphics for the Mini Vision Urbanaut project during my internship with Designworks, Munich. The project was worked on collaboratively with a team from Designworks, Munich, as well as the MINI division of the BMW Group. During this project, we were working on the interior and exterior digital experiences that were defined by the MINI brand.

MY ROLE IN THE PROJECT

During this project, I was responsible for producing animations of the different moments, i.e., Chill, Wanderlust, and Vibe, which were then implemented in the digital unveiling of the MINI Vision Urbanaut. The specific parts of the project I was involved in are displayed below.

THE MINI VISION URBANAUT

MINI imagines its future cars as companions for unforgettable experiences — what they call ‘MINI moments.’ The Vision Urbanaut was designed around three of them: ‘Chill,’ ‘Wanderlust,’ and ‘Vibe.’ My specific role during this project, along with other designers and MINI, was to ideate on visual anchors to bring the concept to life. My main contributions we the animations for some of the key moments below.

I also got to see my work displayed in the BMW Welt experience center

EXTERIOR EXPERIENCE

I was responsible for implementing the design and motion graphics for the exterior lights. The goal with the exterior lighting was to showcase the different modes of driving or the MINI moments of Chill or Vibe on the exterior facade.

INTERIOR EXPERIENCE

I worked on the development visuals and animation for the Wanderlust loop, i.e., the surfaces above the passenger seats, as well as for some animations for the central hub for the Vibe mode. Wanderlust, being the mode that focuses on the romance of travel, uses the display to visualize the driving experience.

DESIGNING FOR THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR

This is the mini moment Vibe, which is all about the blurring boundaries of inside and outside, where the stationary car can be a community and welcoming area where people can hang out. The interior uses the display as the music player and the exterior of the car as an equaliser that matches the beat of the music. My role was to create the animations for this concept.
